Monterey is a seaside city in central California on the southside of Monterey Bay. Monterey life is all about the bay, where residents and tourists enjoy boating and beaching. Monterey’s slogan is “grab life by the moments”, which aligns pretty well with Spur Experiences’s tagline of “collect moments, not things”.

  • The Bay

The action in Monterey always comes back to the water. The bay has several great beaches to enjoy. Asilomar State Beach has dramatic boulders that provide a very unique view. Del Monte is another solid beach option that is close to the city.

  • Rich History

Before joining the United States via the Mexican-American War, Monterey was the capital of Alta California. It was a major port under Spain and Mexico. Monterey continues to celebrate its early heritage. A few sites to check out are San Carlos Cathedral and Colton Hall Museum.

  • Golf

Pebble Beach Golf Links is one of the top golf courses in the world. It is a public course that has hosted six men’s major championship tournaments.

  • Wine

Wine Enthusiast Magazine ranked Monterey County as one of the “Top Ten Wine Travel Destinations” in the world. Wine lovers head out to Carmel-by-the-Sea, Carmel Valley, and Salinas Valley.

  • Scenic Drive

One of the most famous drives in the country is the 17-mile stretch along the pacific coast from Pacific Grove to Pebble Beach.

THE SEASONS
  • The temperature is very consistent throughout the year. November through March is the rainy season and it is the off-season for tourism.

  • Spring is a time of gradual warming and drying. Late spring can be a good time to visit for wine releases and seeing the marine wildlife.

  • Summers are mild and dry. Daily highs only get to the upper 60s, but there is plenty of sunshine.

  • September is the warmest month of the year. It is the only month where daily high temps average 70 degrees.
