sequoia national park

Sequoia National Park is in the Sierra Nevada mountains in eastern California. The park is directly west of Death Valley National Park (but the wraparound drive takes about six hours). The park is famous for the giant sequoia trees. The largest tree in the world, called General Sherman, is located in the park. The park is home to the tallest mountain in the continuous United States (Mount Whitney). They say “everything is bigger in Texas”… the truth is “everything is bigger in Sequoia National Park”. The biggest trees in the world, a huge amount of land, and the tallest mountain in the lower 48.

Things to See in Sequoia National Park

  • The Humongous Trees

Words don’t do justice for what it is like to stand next to these big beautiful trees. Make sure to see General Sherman, the largest tree in the world. Fun fact – the tree is 2,000 years old.
  • Hiking

The old-growth forests have tons of options for hiking. A popular hike is up to Moro Rock, which is an easy walk to the landmark, but then a more challenging set of stairs up the rock. The effort is paid off with incredible views.
  • The Other Points of Interest

The park has so much to see. Tunnel log is a huge tree that fell onto the road. It was too big to move, so authorities cut a tunnel through the tree. Another popular destination is Crystal Cave, which is a cave (obviously) that you can walk through and explore.

When to Visit Sequoia National Park

  • Winter

Much of the park is closed in the winter. The area gets a ton of snowfall (220 inches) in the winter.
  • Spring

Late spring is a decent time to visit to see waterfalls as the snow melts. May is dry but cool, with daily highs around 60.
  • Summer

Summer is easily the peak tourist season. The weather is perfect... dry and sunny, with highs in the mid-70s.
  • Fall

September may be the best month of the year to visit. The weather is still great (highs around 70) but the crowd has thinned out.

What an amazing tour. We saw whales, dolphins and porpoises. The crew was very friendly and enthusiastic. We could really tell they are very respectful towards the animals, we were able to see two humpbacks for nearly half an hour, everybody was silent, the engine was off and the crew was also in awe. Only when the whales left, the engine was back on and we also started moving again. We really felt like we had all the time in the world and we didn't disturb the animals.

We had an amazing time flying over the beautiful canyons, admiring the waterfalls from above. While we are both quite adventurous, I have an occasional fear of heights. The staff was incredibly friendly and professional, putting our minds perfectly at ease and making the best experience for us possible.

This was one of the BEST experiences I have ever had! We extended our trip into a two-tank dive and got to explore the surrounding areas of the garden eel bay before going into our manta show.

This was one of our favorite experiences on the trip. Kensington Market is an incredible neighborhood with a vibrant culture. We had a LOT of food on this tour. If you're thinking this will be sample size HAHA you're wrong.

A wedding guest bought this voucher for me and my husband from our wedding registry via The Knot. We had Chiqui and Jonathan as our guides and they were great! Very personable and knowledgeable. They provided a cooler with water, soda and beer.

The catamaran was smooth and clean. The food was wonderful. The captain and staff were friendly and engaging. We could have have asked for a more fun and educational experience around the island. The snorkeling was wonderful with tons of fish, corral and eels.

My husband and I went on the catamaran cruise during our honeymoon in Milos... exceptional experience! I can not recommend it enough! Beautiful views, crystal clear water, delicious food and awesome crew! A trip to Milos would not be complete without this cruise! 10/10!

Francesca, our guide, was super personable and knowledgeable about the city and legends of Venice. The tour started near the train station and followed through all the alleys and streets to San Marco Square. The weather and the sunset were absolutely beautiful as well.
