Barichara to Guane Hike
Embark on this medium-intensity hike while learning the history of Guane Indigenous people, and more!
The Camino Real walking trail between Barichara and Guane, originally built by the Guane Indians over 600 years ago, offers a medium-intensity 7 km hike through history and diverse landscapes. The trail, later adapted by German engineer Geo Von Lengerke in 1864, takes you through tropical and dry forests, showcasing a unique mix of vegetation from cacti to large trees.
You'll learn about the Guane Indigenous people and the area's colonization and geological history, including fossil discoveries. Upon reaching Guane, visit the Mirador for views of the Suarez River and Canyon, and explore the Archaeological and Paleontological Museum with over 10,000 fossils, a 700-year-old mummy, and incredible artifacts.
The tour concludes with a coffee break and a scenic 40-minute Tuk-Tuk ride back to Barichara.
