Hop aboard the world-famous Jacobite Steam Train at Fort William for a two-hour ride across stunning coastal scenery and over the Glenfinnan Viaduct, made famous by the Harry Potter films. The train arrives in the fishing port of Mallaig, where you can enjoy fresh seafood or explore the town, before returning along the scenic ‘Road to the Isles’ with stops at Dores Beach and along Loch Ness.

Know Before You Go
  • Please arrive for check-in 15 minutes before departure at 15 Union Street at 7:00 AM for the 7:30 AM departure.
  • It is not possible to hold the bus or provide a refund for any late arrivals. Return times are approximate and subject to road conditions and weather. Please ensure you allocate sufficient time for any onward travel plans, allowing at least 3 hours after the scheduled return time for connections or activities.
  • All attractions are subject to availability. Third party suppliers have the right to close attractions/suspend operations at any time

  • Please note that it cannot be guaranteed that people who have booked together will be seated together, as seats are not allocated.
  • It is very important to return to the coach on time at itinerary stops. Your guide will display the time that the bus departson a clock that will be visible. Our coach cannot wait for you.
  • Adults and students must be over 18 at the time of travel, and students must hold a valid ISIC, ISE, or ITIC card.
  • The minimum age for a Highland Explorer Tour passenger is 5 years old, and passengers who are 17 years old must pay the adult price and be accompanied by someone aged 18 or over.
  • If you need to arrange transport from your accommodation to the departure point, please book it via the hotel concierge, as there has been a lot of feedback from customers that Uber taxis are not showing up.
  • Collapsible wheelchairs can be accommodated providing the passenger is accompanied by someone who can assist them to board and disembark.
  • Comfortable walking shoes and a waterproof jacket, just in case there is a sprinkle of rain.
  • In this fast-changing COVID-19 era, guests are asked to follow hygiene practices recommended by the World Health Organization and local government guidelines—including regular hand washing, bringing personal hand sanitiser, maintaining social distancing, and informing the guide if any COVID-like symptoms develop—while mask use on tour coaches is no longer compulsory, though staff or passengers may continue to wear them, and hand sanitizer and enhanced cleaning procedures remain in place.
  • Highland hotels and guesthouses do not have lifts/elevators. Guests should be able to walk up steps in order to access rooms.
  • The summer and winter itinerary vary slightly.

  • It is not possible to upgrade to first class tickets for the steam train. Everyone is issued a standard class train ticket.
