From Heraklion: Chania, Kournas Lake, and Rethymno Day Trip
A full-day bus tour of Chania city, Kournas Lake, and Rethymno city in Crete.
This excursion brings you to West Crete with a first stop in Chania, the most ravishing city of Crete. It was an important Minoan city and the "mother of the Cretan cities", according to ancient writers. The city is divided into the Old City, with the gorgeous harbor, and the New City, beyond its Venetian fortifications.
Leaving this extraordinary city, you will arrive at the quaint Kournas Lake, a beautiful habitat with natural freshwater, one of a kind on Crete. Lush greenery, steep cavities between hills, and rare species of fish and birds. Here you may see eels, moorhens, and two-color turtles. All of this makes Kournas the ideal place to enjoy a swim before lunch or an early afternoon walk.
Going back, you will stop in Rethimnon. Have a stroll in the alleys of the old town, visit the Turkish minarets, and the Venetian fortresses. You can also just enjoy your coffee in the magnificent harbor.
