Mt Cook Small Group Tour from Queenstown
This small group, fully-guided day trip combines all of the key highlights in the area with the time and options to enjoy extra activities of your choice. Tours are led by their famously passionate tour guides, notorious for bringing your journey to life by sharing their stories and rich background knowledge, and run in modern, comfortable minibusses packed with extras ensuring your comfort and safety.
Your tour starts in the stunning city of Queenstown. Departing from there, you make your way through the Kawarau Gorge. Passing stunning views, the Kawarau Suspension Bridge, and the famous Roaring Meg Lookout. Exiting the Kawarau Gorge, you enter the fruit and wine-growing region of Cromwell.
Climbing in altitude, Lindis Pass has amazing views down through the valleys. Being one of the only three alpine roads through the otherwise impassable Southern Alps. While driving through the endless plains of the Mackenzie district, you will spot several of the famous Merino breed of sheep before stopping at the quaint township of Omarama.
Turning west, you begin to enter the Aoraki National Park and Lake Pukaki begins to emerge in front of you! Next, you will arrive at Mt Cook Information Centre. While in the national park, you will have 3 hours of free time to enjoy free walks, hikes or one of the extra optional activities. Farewelling Aoraki and Mt Cook Village, you will start making your way back to Queenstown. You will stop in at High Country Salmon, a local salmon farm. During the summer months, they often stop at Jacksons Orchard to buy some delicious local fruit or real fruit ice cream.
Please note: lunch is not provided on this tour. If you plan to embark on the Hooker Valley hike or any other trek during your Mount Cook tour, it's advisable to bring along a light lunch or grab some food at the stop in Omarama. If you do not plan on embarking on one of the local treks, there will be opportunities for you to purchase food along the way and while you are in Aoraki / Mt Cook.
