Details

Get up close to the spectacular Pastoruri Glacier on a full-day adventure through the Cordillera Blanca. This shared tour offers an opportunity to hike through pristine high-altitude landscapes, observe glaciers, and experience the unique flora and fauna of the Peruvian Andes. Visitors can enjoy panoramic mountain views, walk among snow and ice, and explore natural wonders such as carbonated springs, Patocha and Umapashimin lagoons, and the towering Puya Raimondi plants.

The tour begins with hotel pickup in Huaraz between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Guests travel south, passing through Recuay, Ticapampa, and Catac, where a coca tea stop helps with altitude adjustment. After visiting Pumapampa and observing cave murals, guests hike approximately one hour to reach Pastoruri Glacier at 5,000 meters above sea level. Time at the glacier allows exploration of ice walls, snow contact, and stunning mountain vistas. After lunch in Catac, the tour returns to Huaraz by late afternoon.

Know Before You Go
  • The glacier is located at an altitude of 5,000 meters; it is essential to have acclimated in Huaraz for at least two days prior.
  • The walk to the glacier takes about 45–60 minutes; while the path is well-maintained, the altitude makes it physically demanding.
  • Wear very warm layers, including a thermal base, fleece, and a windproof/waterproof jacket.
  • Bring sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen) as UV radiation is extremely high on the glacier.
  • Pack water and snacks, and consider drinking coca tea in Catac to help with altitude symptoms.
