Rainbow Mountains: Montaña de 7 Colores
Full-day Cusco tour to Vinicunca (Rainbow Mountain) with Red Valley trek, Andean wildlife, and scenic views of Ausangate.
Discover the awe-inspiring Vinicunca, also known as the Mountain of Seven Colors, one of Cusco’s most iconic natural wonders. Its slopes are adorned with vibrant shades of fuchsia, gold, lavender, and turquoise, creating a rainbow-like panorama that captivates every visitor. Along the way, admire the Red Valley, a dramatic landscape of crimson-hued mountains and ravines, whose striking colors result from iron-rich minerals in the Vilcanota range.
Begin with an early morning departure from Cusco and travel south to Quiquijana for a buffet breakfast before continuing to the community of Chillihuani and the checkpoint. Arrive at Phulawasipata, where the trek begins, with the option to rent horses for part of the journey. Over approximately two hours, ascend to the summit of Vinicunca at 5,082 meters above sea level, enjoying spectacular views of the rainbow-colored mountain, surrounding peaks, and the majestic Ausangate, Peru’s fifth-highest mountain. Observe native wildlife including llamas, alpacas, vicuñas, and condors along the way. Return to the vehicle for a scenic drive to Quiquijana for a buffet lunch, then continue back to Cusco, completing a memorable exploration of Peru’s highland beauty.
