Boat Tour of Ortigia Island and Sea Caves Experience

A guided boat tour around Ortigia Island in Syracuse. Explore sea caves, Maniace Castle, Aretusa Fountain, and enjoy a swim in the Ionian Sea.

Details

The Ortigia Island and Sea Caves boat tour offers an immersive journey around Syracuse’s historic coastline, combining natural scenery and cultural landmarks. The excursion departs from Umbertino Bridge and continues toward the Small Port of Syracuse (Lo Sbarcadero), dedicated to the city’s patron saint, St. Lucia. Along the way, three natural sea caves are explored, including a striking heart-shaped cave.

The route then follows the eastern seafront of Ortigia, where views of Maniace Castle highlight the island’s defensive heritage. The experience continues toward the Aretusa Fountain, a freshwater spring flowing into the Ionian Sea, where a refreshing swim may be enjoyed in crystal-clear waters. The tour concludes by passing through the Grand Port (La Marina) before returning under Umbertino Bridge.
