Sitka Wild Coast Paddle and Cruise
This half-day paddle and cruise adventure is the perfect introduction to the wild side of Sitka Sound, beginning with a fun and informative kayak skills and safety orientation led by the guide. Participants will have some time to dabble about in the shallows before they set out to explore the first group of islands. While paddling through mazes of reef and kelp forest, the guide will help identify the colorful marine life below, including crab, sea stars, anemones, sea urchins, jellyfish, and more. At the surface - in addition to the ever-amusing sea otters - there is also frequent sightings of harbor seals, sea lions, porpoise, and sometimes whales. Next, paddlers will step ashore on a seldom-visited beach to stretch their legs, do a little beachcombing, and enjoy a light lunch while soaking in the majestic wildness and amazing views of the Sound. This half-day wilderness exploration concludes with an exciting 45-minute boat cruise back to Sitka. Please bring: Layered clothing, comfortable shoes, a warm hat, sunglasses, a camera, binoculars, gloves, and rain gear.
