One of the most beloved animals in Costa Rica is the popular sloth. This animal captivates people with its tenderness and peculiar slow behavior. The La Fortuna area is a unique place when it comes to sloths. The climate, protection, availability of food, and the essential absence of predators make this privileged property an amazing natural oasis. Participants can enjoy this activity at 8:00am, 2:30pm, or the night walk at 5:30pm (the two-toed sloths are more active at night). 

Tour guests will be picked up at their hotel and taken to the Sloth Territory located within a small family ecological project just five minutes from La Fortuna. This project has a one-mile trail that is suitable for adults, families, and children of all ages. The two-hour tour will take tour guests through amazing flora alongside a river bordering the property, and, of course, to the Guarumo trees; the favorite food of these emblematic animals. 

Learn the importance of sloth protection. Due to the growing popularity of the sloth, illegal trade of this species has increased significantly which is why Ecoterra Expeditions, together with the Rodriguez Family, work to preserve a privileged space for their protection. 

The specialized guides are experts in finding them so observation is guaranteed. Participants must remember that the sloth is a solitary animal and that most of its time is spent sleeping or resting in the treetops. There are two types of sloths to observe: two-toed sloths and three-toed sloths. Lucky guests are able to view a mother and her baby; a thrilling experience!
