Visit Gunkanjima island the Battleship island in Nagasaki Experience

UNESCO World Heritage tour from Nagasaki: Gunkanjima museum, cruise, and abandoned island experience.

Details

Explore Japan’s industrial history on the Gunkanjima (Battleship Island) UNESCO World Heritage Tour, a guided cruise from Nagasaki that combines a museum visit with a chance to see the abandoned island, weather permitting. Once a bustling coal mining community housing over 5,000 people, Gunkanjima now stands as a striking relic of Japan’s industrial past and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The tour begins at the Gunkanjima Digital Museum, where interactive exhibits and multimedia displays provide historical context. Guests then cruise to the island itself, observing its iconic “battleship” silhouette and industrial ruins from designated viewing areas. This experience offers a unique window into Japan’s industrial heritage, blending history, culture, and coastal scenery.
