This duo tour will start with a journey in air-conditioned transport to Xunantunich, a national treasure. It sits close to Belize's western border and is a must-visit. Local souvenirs, hammocks, and blankets will be available from the many vendors waiting alongside the river at the entrance to the ancient city.
You'll take a hand-cranked ferry across the river to visit the Maya Temple. The panoramic views of the Cayo District and nearby Guatemala from atop 'El Castillo' are stupendous!
It's then on to the Belize Zoo before heading back home. The Belize Zoo is a small zoo with a big heart. Birds fly high in natural, enclosed canopies. Crocodiles lounge about in pools made just for them. Here you can get a look at the national animal, the Tapir (Mountain Cow), and smell why the peccary has its own place in the Belize Kriol language.
