Sumi-E ink Painting in a Relaxing Green Tea Shop
A Tsukiji Sumi-e ink painting class with guided brush techniques, traditional themes, and Japanese green tea.
Immerse yourself in the meditative art of Sumi-e (Suiboku-ga) Ink Painting in a tranquil Tsukiji tea shop, accompanied by premium Japanese green tea. This traditional ink-wash painting, known as “painting from the heart,” emphasizes elegant simplicity and Zen spirituality, allowing the artist’s inner spirit to flow directly onto paper. Guests learn fundamental techniques, including deliberate single-brushstrokes that capture the essence of each subject, under the guidance of an expert instructor.
Participants select from traditional themes such as pine, bamboo, plum, orchid, chrysanthemum, or kanji characters, and will create a personalized Shikishi board, a special kind of Japanese card paper that is often used for drawing and autographs. You will take home this meaningful keepsake or gift to keep as your own. The experience blends hands-on instruction with meditative practice, offering a calming, creative insight into Japanese aesthetics while enjoying the serene atmosphere of Tsukiji and savoring high-quality green tea.
