The Northwest region of Argentina (often simply called El Norte) may not be the most visited by tourists, but it is definitely a favorite for people who like to explore regions that are somewhat off the beaten path. With mountain views, amazingly colorful rock formations, stretches of desert and true small town culture, there is a ton to do and see in the northwestern area of the country. You will find deeply ingrained traditions still practiced in this section of Argentina, and it is not uncommon to come upon jubilant festivals filled with eclectic song and dance. Encompassing provinces like Jujuy and Tucuman, the northwest is in many ways a combination of natural wonders and revisiting the custom of the South American past.

Nicknamed the Tuscany of Argentina, Cafayate treats visitors not only to fantastic tasting wines but also, the town’s bustling central plaza offers amazing restaurants and lively music.

A gorge boasting walls shaded in pinks, reds, lavenders and yellows, it is one of the most popular scenic destinations in northern Argentina.
