Things to See in Punta Cana

  • The Beaches

The sand is the whitest and most powdery version in the world. This is why Punta Cana’s beaches are such a huge draw. Two of the more popular: Playa Bavaro and El Cortecito. You can generally find any type of water sport/rental/activity available right on the beaches.
  • Golf

As it is a resort destination, golf is on many tourists’ agenda when visiting the coastal region. Punta Espada—a Jack Nicklaus designed course—should be a must play for any fan of the lynx. Imagine swinging a club against a breathtaking backdrop of sun, sand and sea.
  • Hoyo Azul Lagoon

Otherwise known as the Blue Hole, this is actually a cenote—a sinkhole formed as a result of the roofs of caves and underground caverns collapsing over the course of thousands of years. The water is pure blue here, and, according to most, a one-of-a-kind experience. Hoyo Azul Lagoon is located inside of Scape Park.

When to Visit Punta Cana

  • Winter

Punta Cana's winter, from December to February, offers perfect weather for a tropical getaway, with temperatures ranging from the mid-70s to low 80s Fahrenheit. It's a popular time to visit this Caribbean paradise as it allows for beach relaxation and various water activities. Winter is perfect for lounging on the pristine white-sand beaches and swimming in the crystal-clear turquoise waters. Visitors can also enjoy water sports like snorkeling, scuba diving, and catamaran tours to explore the vibrant marine life.
  • Spring

Spring in Punta Cana, from March to May, brings slightly warmer temperatures with highs in the mid-80s to low 90s Fahrenheit. The weather remains sunny and pleasant, making it an excellent time for outdoor adventures. Spring is ideal for exploring the Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park, a lush reserve with freshwater lagoons and walking trails. Visitors can also go horseback riding along the beach or through the tropical forests for a unique experience.
  • Summer

Punta Cana's summer, from June to August, is the beginning of the rainy season. While it can be hot and humid with temperatures in the low to mid-90s Fahrenheit, it also offers refreshing rain showers to cool off. Summer provides opportunities for cultural experiences like visiting the Altos de Chavon, a replica of a 16th-century Mediterranean village with art galleries and live performances. Visitors can also experience local music, dance, and cuisine during the lively Dominican Carnival celebrations.
  • Fall

Fall in Punta Cana, from September to November, is the peak of the hurricane season. While there might be occasional rains and tropical storms, it also means fewer tourists and more affordable accommodation options. Fall is an excellent time for budget travelers who want to experience the beauty of Punta Cana without the crowds. Visitors can explore the nearby Bavaro Adventure Park for zip-lining, bungee jumping, and other adrenaline-pumping activities. It's also an ideal time for golf enthusiasts, as the region boasts several world-class golf courses.

What an amazing tour. We saw whales, dolphins and porpoises. The crew was very friendly and enthusiastic. We could really tell they are very respectful towards the animals, we were able to see two humpbacks for nearly half an hour, everybody was silent, the engine was off and the crew was also in awe. Only when the whales left, the engine was back on and we also started moving again. We really felt like we had all the time in the world and we didn't disturb the animals.
