Providenciales, TKCA 1ZZ, Turks and Caicos Islands

This stunning paradise was once the home to just three quiet fishing villages. The rise of tourism in the 1980s has led Providenciales to now be the most populated island in Turks and Caicos. Guests can stay at luxurious, all-inclusive resorts and splurge at gourmet restaurants. Since there is little land to farm, the island has adopted hydroponic farming to supply fresh produce. The picturesque beaches with turquoise waters and powdery, white sand that surround the island are what captivate most visitors.

Things to See in Providenciales

  • Scenic Drives

Renting a car is a great way to see the many beautiful beaches of Providenciales, plus it is fairly easy to navigate the island as it’s only 15 miles from end to end. The recommended Chalk Sound Drive is a windy, paved route that leads to one of the island’s most incredible sites, a glowing, turquoise lagoon called the Chalk Sound.
  • Sunset Cruises

There is no better way to end a day in paradise than by taking a sunset cruise with one of the island’s many boat operators. Sit back, relax, and make a toast as you sail into the setting Caribbean sun.
  • Beer

Turk’s Head Brewery produces four varieties of beer, and the only who makes it in the country. Take a tour with their expert guide to learn the basics of brewing beer as you walk through their modern facility before trying some free samples.
  • Culinary

Incredible fine dining is found here, from local seafood dishes to international favorites. Many restaurants are led by award-winning chefs. One thing to note, there are no chain restaurants on the island (even McDonalds!)
  • Horseback Riding

The horseback riding here is perfect for beginners and is a great addition to your island vacation. The tours are unique in that many of the rides are on the white, sandy beaches. You may even wade directly into the turquoise water.

When to Visit Providenciales

  • Winter

Providenciales' winter, from December to February, offers warm and pleasant weather with temperatures ranging from the mid-70s to low 80s Fahrenheit. It's an ideal time to visit this beautiful island in the Turks and Caicos as it allows for enjoyable beach days and water activities. Winter is perfect for relaxing on the world-famous Grace Bay Beach, known for its soft white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters.
  • Spring

Spring in Providenciales, from March to May, brings slightly warmer temperatures with highs in the low to mid-80s Fahrenheit. The island's landscapes remain lush and green from the previous rainy season. Spring is ideal for exploring the Chalk Sound National Park, a stunning turquoise lagoon with mangroves and small cays. Visitors can also go snorkeling at Smith's Reef to discover the vibrant coral reefs and abundant marine life.
  • Summer

Providenciales' summer, from June to August, marks the beginning of the rainy season. While it can be hot and humid with temperatures in the mid-80s to low 90s Fahrenheit, it also provides a refreshing respite from the dry season. Summer offers opportunities for experiencing local culture and attending events like the Turks and Caicos Music and Cultural Festival in July, featuring live performances, local food, and crafts. Visitors can also take boat tours to explore nearby uninhabited islands like Little Water Cay, home to the endangered Rock Iguanas.
  • Fall

Fall in Providenciales, from September to November, is the peak of the hurricane season. The weather remains warm and humid, with temperatures ranging from the mid-70s to low 80s Fahrenheit. Despite the risk of storms, fall is an excellent time to experience the island's natural beauty and tranquility with fewer tourists around. Visitors can take advantage of the low season to enjoy quieter beaches and explore the underwater world through scuba diving or snorkeling excursions. Fall is also an ideal time to savor local seafood at beachfront restaurants and experience the laid-back island vibe of Providenciales.

What an amazing tour. We saw whales, dolphins and porpoises. The crew was very friendly and enthusiastic. We could really tell they are very respectful towards the animals, we were able to see two humpbacks for nearly half an hour, everybody was silent, the engine was off and the crew was also in awe. Only when the whales left, the engine was back on and we also started moving again. We really felt like we had all the time in the world and we didn't disturb the animals.

We had an amazing time flying over the beautiful canyons, admiring the waterfalls from above. While we are both quite adventurous, I have an occasional fear of heights. The staff was incredibly friendly and professional, putting our minds perfectly at ease and making the best experience for us possible.

This was one of the BEST experiences I have ever had! We extended our trip into a two-tank dive and got to explore the surrounding areas of the garden eel bay before going into our manta show.

This was one of our favorite experiences on the trip. Kensington Market is an incredible neighborhood with a vibrant culture. We had a LOT of food on this tour. If you're thinking this will be sample size HAHA you're wrong.

A wedding guest bought this voucher for me and my husband from our wedding registry via The Knot. We had Chiqui and Jonathan as our guides and they were great! Very personable and knowledgeable. They provided a cooler with water, soda and beer.

The catamaran was smooth and clean. The food was wonderful. The captain and staff were friendly and engaging. We could have have asked for a more fun and educational experience around the island. The snorkeling was wonderful with tons of fish, corral and eels.

Francesca, our guide, was super personable and knowledgeable about the city and legends of Venice. The tour started near the train station and followed through all the alleys and streets to San Marco Square. The weather and the sunset were absolutely beautiful as well.
