The Askari Monument was erected in 1972 as a statue to British soldiers who served in World War I. The statue depicts a soldier aiming his bayonet towards the harbor and falls into the "must-see" category.
Less than 15-miles away from city center is Pugu Hills Nature Reserve where there are a number of trails for hiking, bats to watch, and extensive beach to relax at. Shop for trinkets from the local merchants and make a beach day out of your visit to Dar.
