On this Remutaka Rail Bike Tour, you will be shuttled up to either Maymorn (slightly more challenging ride) or Kaitoke (easy ride), where you start your adventure with a very gradual incline through native bush. Pass through tunnels and over bridges, while checking out information boards detailing the enormous task of constructing the old fell railway system.
Then you will reach the summit - a large grassy plateau perfect for a picnic or cold drink - then enjoy a fun descent to Cross Creek in the Wairarapa, surrounded by some of New Zealand's most scenic farmland. From Cross Creek you then follow a single lane track to the Car Park, where you can either wait for the shuttle, or continue biking up to the cafes and pubs at Featherston and they'll pick you up before driving you back to Wellington Station.
