Heading south, you journey through the breathtaking Waikato countryside, known for its vast farming landscapes, mighty rivers, and picturesque scenery—perfect for photo opportunities. As you continue towards Rotorua, you'll pass through Tirau, famously dubbed the 'Corrugated Iron Capital of the World' for its unique sculptures and buildings, where your guide will ensure you don't miss any highlights. Upon reaching Rotorua, you'll take a guided driving tour to help you get your bearings and see the city's most famous sites, including Lake Rotorua, Rotorua Museum, Government Gardens, and more.
After exploring Rotorua, you will be able to experience Wai-O-Tapu. Named "One of the 20 Most Surreal Places in the World", Wai-O-Tapu is home to an expansive geothermal area including the Champagne lake and local mud-pools and wonders. You will also have the opportunity to experience Te Puia. Te Puia spans 70 hectares within the historic Te Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley, on the edge of Rotorua. After Te Puia and Wai-O-Tapu, you will begin your return journey to Auckland, complete with some secret stops along the way to make the most of your day.
