Russell Falls with Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary
As the bus departs Hobart, it follows the Derwent River into the picturesque Derwent Valley. Watch for native birds along the riverbanks before reaching New Norfolk, the valley's heart of tiny towns and agriculture.
You'll pass through the hop fields of Busy Park and visit the Salmon Ponds, the oldest trout hatchery in the Southern Hemisphere, operating since 1864. Enjoy a complimentary morning tea, explore the museum, and perhaps feed the trout, all set in beautiful English parklands.
At Mt Field National Park, take an easy walk through lush rainforests and fern glades to the stunning Russell Falls. Relax under the towering tree ferns and stroll alongside a peaceful forest stream. After lunch, (at your own expense), there may be a chance to buy fresh raspberries from roadside stalls (seasonal).
End the day at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, where you'll encounter the iconic Tasmanian Devil and other native animals, with a chance to hand-feed those roaming freely. This unforgettable day ends with the journey back to Hobart, full of special memories and experiences.
