City of Birds Tour - Single Kayaks
Witness the wild and wondrous wings of the great blue heron rookery! For this tour, meet your guide at Boom Island and shuttle up to Anoka County Riverfront Regional Park by bus. After a paddle skill introduction on land, on your single kayak you will wind downriver past islands and under bridges, toward the old Port of Minneapolis.
Pause to gawk at the squawking residents of two special islands that make up the great blue heron rookery - the City of Birds - also home to great egrets, cormorants and turtles. You'll enjoy the river's current and one of the most distinctive skyline views from anywhere in town. Depending on conditions, we wrap up with either a visit to the Bassett Creek lagoon or a straight shot back into the Boom Island marina.
As with all PBGC tours, the route and duration is subject to flexibility depending on weather conditions, water level and flow-rate, and group dynamics. Distance will be reflected accordingly, but averages 3-4 miles on this stretch.
Duration: 3 hours
This 2-3-hour downriver kayak on the Mississippi River features a dramatic range of scenery from wild to urban.
