Livingstone, a historic town in southern Zambia, is best known as the gateway to the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls. Named after explorer David Livingstone, this riverside town blends adventure, culture, and natural beauty, making it one of Africa’s most captivating destinations.

Livingstone offers the perfect mix of adventure, wildlife, and cultural immersion—centered around one of the most spectacular natural wonders on Earth. Whether you're leaping into Devil’s Pool or cruising past elephants at sunset, Livingstone is a thrilling and soulful African escape.

  • Victoria Falls

One of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, Victoria Falls—called “The Smoke That Thunders”—is the star attraction. Visit during the high-water season (Feb–May) for maximum spray, or during the dry season for better visibility and access to unique spots like the Devil’s Pool.

  • Devil’s Pool & Livingstone Island

During low water months (usually Aug–Dec), take a guided swim to Devil’s Pool, a natural infinity pool on the edge of the falls. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime thrill for adventurous travelers.

  • Zambezi River Activities

Livingstone is a hub for water-based adventures. Go white-water rafting on the rapids below the falls, enjoy sunset cruises with hippo and crocodile sightings, or try canoeing on calmer sections of the river.

  • Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park

This small but rewarding park along the Zambezi River offers game drives where you can spot elephants, giraffes, zebras, and even white rhinos on foot with a ranger—one of the few places in Zambia with rhino tracking.

  • Local Markets & Cultural Experiences

Explore Maramba Market to experience daily Zambian life and shop for colorful fabrics, crafts, and fresh produce. Or visit a local village for traditional dance, drumming, and insight into Tonga tribal life.

THE SEASONS
  • Summer in Livingstone is hot and rainy, with temperatures ranging from 70°F to 90°F (21°C to 32°C). This is the wet season, and rainfall often comes in short, heavy bursts, particularly in the afternoons. The upside? Victoria Falls is at its most powerful, with massive spray and deafening roar as the Zambezi River surges over the cliffs. The surrounding landscape is lush and green, perfect for photography and scenic flights over the falls.

  • As the rains subside, Livingstone transitions into autumn with temperatures ranging from 65°F to 85°F (18°C to 29°C). The weather becomes more comfortable and drier, and the vegetation is still lush from the rainy season. Victoria Falls remains full and spectacular during these months, though visibility begins to improve as the spray lessens slightly. It’s a fantastic time for boat cruises, photography, and enjoying the natural beauty without the intense summer heat.

  • Winter is the dry season in Livingstone, with cooler, pleasant temperatures between 50°F and 80°F (10°C to 27°C). The skies are clear, humidity is low, and the conditions are perfect for game drives in nearby Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park and day trips to Chobe in Botswana. Wildlife becomes easier to spot as animals gather near water sources.

  • Spring is the hottest and driest time of year in Livingstone, with temperatures soaring between 70°F and 100°F (21°C to 38°C). The Zambezi River is at its lowest, and Victoria Falls is often reduced to a misty curtain on the Zambian side, though the Zimbabwean side retains more water flow. This is peak season for Devil’s Pool, which becomes safely accessible as water levels drop. The heat makes early morning and evening the best times for safaris and boat trips, and many wildlife species are easily spotted as they congregate around shrinking water sources.
