The online information is scarce for this distillery but it is a local favorite and, as such, a great place to chat with some locals. The bartenders are some of the best in the city as far as friendliness, and their cocktails are well-rounded too.
Broken Trail embraces some solid brews (such as the Fred Belgian Triple) but the focus here is their locally distilled and crafted spirits. With a bourbon, a vodka, a gin, and a rum you can make just about any palette pleased here.
We love this distillery primarily for the ambiance and the handcrafted cocktails that they masterfully create. There are local beers provided here as well, should you be feeling a little hops in your life. Be sure to come with an appetite as their menu is fantastic with some healthy choices as well as a not-so-healthy but delectable burger: half chorizo, the other half short rib and brisket, manchego, truffle fries, and some other goodies.
Spawned out of friendship, this distillery came to be through the joint passion for quality spirits by two couples. Their passion extends into the locale where the Wild West history is still alive and permeates the local population. The flavored vodkas and the aquilas will remind you of where these liquors originate from.
Three Rivers is a brewery and a distillery making a variety of ales and a few spirit options. Try the Tierra Del Encanto which is an agave spirit, just like tequila, that feels as New Mexico as one can imagine. As for cocktails, give the Mango Mafia a try, which is a spicy cocktail utilizing the aforementioned agave liquor.
As Albuquerque’s first distillery Left Turn has established a sturdy footing in the local market. There are a variety of region-specific spirits but we love to focus on the Blue Corn Whiskey. This triple distilled whiskey has “just a hint of sweet popcorn” in its flavor profile that will keep you sipping it on the rocks.
With several accolades Santa Fe Spirits has proven why it’s a required visit to liquor enthusiasts traveling through the capital city. Check out their smoky gin, and the strange Atapiño Liqueur which gives you a “taste of the Mountain West.” On top of that they offer the normal tours one would expect, but they also offer classes on crafting delicious cocktails.
The branding alone at Little Toad Creek Distillery is reason enough for a visit, check out those labels! Beyond that, they are aggressive with their bourbons which are aged in 5-gallon barrels which allows for much quicker turnaround and maturing of the flavor. There’s a full food menu so drop in for a bite and work your way through the tasting menu.
Ron, cofounder with wife Olha, is a Ph.D. Engineer and designed and built his first still when he was 16-years-old! If you can trust anyone in creating quality liquors this is the guy. Their locally sourced blue corn used in bourbon and vodka is just a small illustration on their commitment to local ingredients and sustainability.
They call it the “Arts and Crafts Distillery” and we just love the concept. In fact, we couldn’t put it a better way than they already do: “From the Arts & Crafts Movement comes the idea that something handmade enriches the lives of those it touches and influences the way people live and relate to the outside world.” Drop by for a tour and tasting; tours are Saturdays from 2-4pm and require a reservation.
