The Mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters Colorado is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado has served children in Colorado since 1918.
This year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado will support approximately 2,000 mentoring relationships in the Denver and Pikes Peak Area. We know from research that we impact children by:-Improving sense of self and future-Improving relationships-Improving attitudes towards school and academic performance-Helping kids avoid delinquent behaviorBig Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado primarily targets elementary school-aged children who live in low-income, single-parent families. 88% of the children we served in 2013 were eligible for the Free or Reduced School Lunch Program. One-third of the children we serve have a parent who is incarcerated.
