Navajo Nation is home to one of the largest tribes of Native Americans, however the nation is also struggling with one of the largest housing crisis in the United States. Sandstone Housing is a 501 c (3) non-profit organization whose vision is to provide, construct and maintain housing for low-income Navajos on Navajo Nation. Sandstone Housing has 644 homes throughout seven locations on the reservation. Kayenta Estates is the organization’s largest property and is home to around 185 residents and families. However, more than a third of Kayenta’s homes are vacant. Kayenta Estates has 70 vacant homes that are in dire need of renovation and repairs, but unfortunately Sandstone Housing does not have enough funding to renovate these homes. Sandstone Housing has the potential to provide so many more homes to the reservation’s families in need. The organization has never stopped trying and will continue to follow through on our mission.
