TOP 10 HIPSTER THINGS TO DO IN
We just couldn’t resist this list when talking about the hipster capital of the world. From fancy coffee to food trucks, here’s your list of hipster activities in Oregon.
10.
Breakfast/Brunch

Oregonians have embraced solid homestyle breakfasts with organic ingredients and thick (like, the thickest thick) cut bacon. They aren’t strangers to bottomless mimosas and elaborate bloody mary bars either. When in Portland, check out Slappy Cakes, Mother’s Bistro, or J&M Café.

9.
Doughnuts

OK, the trend of throwing a bunch of crap on sugary doughnuts inherently makes this activity non-hipster. However, the birthplace of Voodoo Doughnuts requires that true millennials drop by for cereal-clad pastries and, what’s more, that they wait 45-minutes in line to do so.

8.
Coffee

Sure, you might think that Oregon’s neighbors to the north make more of a coffee haven, but, all due respect to Starbucks, this state offers some major geekery appreciation for the dark elixir as well. Stop at one of these caffeine confectionaries for a lesson about coffee appreciation and become a connoisseur yourself.

7.
Boutique Hotels and B&B’s

Farmhouses throughout the countryside with accommodation options and Airbnbs in the cities, not to mention boutique hotels along the way, give Oregon visitors and locals alike the opportunity to have unique places to lay their heads. Even if it’s a “staycation” you should find some time to explore the local accommodations of our great state.

6.
Farms/Farmer’s Market

In such a lush ecosystem crops flourish which means you can find some of the best fruit, veggies, meat, dairy products and more. Take a car out to the countryside to visit some of the farms in person and pick your own pears and apples. Or, save some time and let those same farmers bring the product to you by hitting up a local farmer’s market.

5.
The Outdoors

You can’t be a hipster in Oregon without having a desire to be outdoors and enjoy Mother Nature. There are phenomenal hikes that lead to gorgeous waterfalls, boat rides that take in the coastal views, and even an opportunity to do “canopy camping” which puts you in a hammock high up in the trees for an overnight snooze. Good luck!

4.
Cocktails

It must be one hundred years ago because speakeasies are the craze these days. Of course, we have the benefit of them actually being legal now, but that doesn’t restrict us from hiding them from the untrained eye; for fun. Watch the master bartenders at work or give mixology a try yourself with a class.

3.
Breweries

It seems whenever the Pacific Northwest comes up in conversation we have to talk about the beer. Well, that’s because they have great beer and they have a lot of it! Knock back a few IPAs, porters, or venture into the growing trend of ciders while in Oregon to do as the locals do.

2.
Bicycling

From the countryside roads, to the forest surrounded hills, to the bike-path filled cities you just have to hop on a bike in Oregon. In fact, the city of bridges (Portland) is best seen via bike and now that you can rent bikes around the city by the hour you can explore at your leisure.

1.
Food Carts

Portland has a surprisingly vast collection of food carts/trucks that make it resemble a Central American marketplace. With over 700 food trucks you can have lunch and dinner covered every day of the year at a new cart for each meal! Whatever will you do for breakfast (see previous points)?
