Anegada, meaning “drowned island”, is the northernmost island of the British Virgin Island chain. Known for its nearly flat elevation, hence the name, the tallest point on the island is 28 feet above sea level. Surrounded by the 18-mile-long Horseshoe Reef, Anegada is a destination location for snorkeling, diving, and other water sports activities. Notably, Horseshoe Reef has caused 300+ shipwrecks and is a prime spot for diving. Anegada is also the only island in the Virgin Island’s chain to be made entirely of coral and limestone, as opposed to being formed from ancient volcanos. Be sure to check out the incredible flora and fauna on the island as well, including flocks of flamingos and rock iguanas.
 

  • Horseshoe Reef

    Anegada is home to the fourth largest coral reef in the world, Horseshoe Reef. Surrounding the island with 18 miles of reef, this is known as one of the best places to snorkel and view a wide variety of colorful sea life. Also known for sinking over 300 ships, divers from around the world come here to explore the underwater wreckage. While ships are no longer able to anchor near the reef for ecological protection, there is still plenty to do and see along Horseshoe Reef.

  • Lobster

    When you think of oceanfront restaurants in the Caribbean, you think of lobster. Visitors will not be disappointed by the world-renowned sweet Anegada lobster. Enjoy a classic lobster feast at the infamous Lobster Trap for their mouth-watering, traditional lobster dishes. Guests can even try out lobster fishing and learn to prepare and enjoy their own delicious lobster meal.

  • The Beaches

    People obviously go to the Caribbean for their beaches and Anegada will not disappoint. With miles of white sandy beaches, visitors have a plethora of options to choose from. The most notable beaches of Anegada are Loblolly Bay, Pomato Point, and Cow Wreck Beach. Be sure to check out Cow Wreck Beach Bar and try their spin on the British Virgin Island’s signature rum drink, the Painkiller.

It's an excellent time to visit this serene island as it offers comfortable weather for beach activities and water sports. Winter is a perfect time for snorkeling and diving in the pristine coral reefs surrounding the island. Visitors can also enjoy relaxing on the secluded beaches, such as Loblolly Bay and Cow Wreck Beach.

  • Spring in Anegada brings slightly warmer temperatures, with highs in the 80s Fahrenheit. The island's landscape is lush and vibrant due to the previous winter's rains. Spring is an ideal time for exploring the island's nature reserves and birdwatching in the Salt Ponds. Visitors can also enjoy the annual Anegada Lobster Festival, celebrating the island's famous spiny lobsters.

  • Anegada's summer is hot and can be humid, with temperatures in the 80s to 90s Fahrenheit. Despite the heat, this season attracts tourists who want to experience the lively beach scene and enjoy the vibrant nightlife. Summer offers opportunities for kiteboarding and windsurfing in the trade winds, making it a favorite destination for water sports enthusiasts.
