Santa Barbara is a popular tourist destination on the Pacific Coast about 95 miles northwest of Los Angeles. In addition to being a vacation destination, Santa Barbara is well-represented with four colleges, which includes UC Santa Barbara, Westmont, Santa Barbara City College, and Antioch. Santa Barbara is frequently called the “American Riviera” due to a similar climate and geology to the French Riviera. The Santa Barbara coast is the longest stretch of south-facing beach on the US west coast. The town has beautiful and historic 18th century buildings that sit between the ocean and the Santa Ynez Mountains.

  • The Beaches

    Santa Barbara has miles of sandy coastline. The distinct beaches offer a wide variety of activities, from playing with your furry friends at the dog-friendly Arroyo Burro Beach to playing volleyball at East Beach to surfing at Leadbetter Beach.

  • Historic Charm

    The entire town has an old-world feel. Some of the most iconic buildings include the Santa Barbara County Courthouse and Old Mission.

  • Parks and Museums

    Santa Barbara has a thriving tourism industry, and there is plenty for visitor to do beyond the beaches. Some popular activities include the Santa Barbara Zoo, the Botanic Gardens, and the Maritime Museum.

  • Wine

    Santa Barbara has one of the most diverse wine-growing regions in the world. Several operators offer shuttles to local winery tours.

THE SEASONS
  • Santa Barbara is mild year-round. Winters are the rainy season and highs hit the mid-60s (generally too cool for beach days). Winters are the slow tourism season.

  • Spring is a time of steady drying and warming. By May, highs hit around 70 degrees and the weather is very dry. May and June are great months to visit as you miss the peak tourism season.

  • Summers are dry, sunny, and mild. Highs only reach the mid-70s and there is almost no rain. July and August are peak months for tourists, especially on the beaches.

  • Santa Barbara has a late summer. September and October are similar to July and August. Temps reach the mid-70s and it is fairly dry.
