Sonoma is the birthplace of the wine industry in California. In fact, the Sonoma/Napa region is considered one of top three wine producers in the world. Sonoma has more than 425 wineries. The region is all about tourism, which is the leading industry with annual revenues approaching $2 billion. Sonoma obviously offers world-class wineries. However, there are plenty of other ways to spend your time (and money) including farm-to-table dining and high-end spas.

Sonoma has a rich history dating back to the early 1800s. The area was established as a Mexican mission. Many of the old Spanish-style buildings are still standing today. Some of the most visited are the Presidio of Sonoma, Mission San Francisco Solano, and the Toscano Hotel.
In addition to the wineries, the area offers incredible natural beauty in the miles of coastline and redwood forests. Sonoma has over 50 regional and state parks (a nice perk of having over $150 million a year in tax revenue from the tourism industry).
While Sonoma does receive steady tourism throughout the year, winter is slightly slower due to the cooler weather. It is also the rainy season.
Spring is very popular time to visit. The wineries often celebrate bottle releases. The weather steadily dries up and highs are in the 70s by April.
Summer is very dry and warm. Highs can get up to 90. Summers are popular
Fall is the harvest season and the leaves turn with the season. The harvest includes many great events to celebrate. October daily highs are still in the upper 70s.
