Yosemite is a National Park in eastern California. The park is known for its magnificent beauty, including granite cliffs, stunning waterfalls, giant sequoias, and biodiversity. The park spans about 1,200 square miles, and 95% of the park is designated wilderness.
Many of the most iconic waterfalls and cliffs are located in Yosemite Valley. This valley is where the majority of visitors explore and stay. The area has several amenities including the Visitor Center, Heritage Center, and the Yosemite Museum.
Yosemite has 800 miles of hiking trails to explore this massive park. One of the best views is from the top of Glacier Point, which is accessible by hike or drive. Another Yosemite must-see is rewarded after a half day’s hike to Half Dome. More adventurous tourists elect for multi-day backpacking trips within the park.
El Capitan is an enormous granite spire that offers some of the best rock climbing in the world.
Many visitors elect camp at the park. Campsites are open year-round. If camping isn’t your thing, consider staying at the historic Majestic Yosemite Hotel (book it way in advance of your trip).
Winter is the wet (snowy) season. It is the off-season, but the park still offers winter activities including ice skating. Yosemite also has a ski area.
Spring can be a great time to visit to see the waterfalls at high time with the snow melt.
Summer is the dry (and hot) season. Temps get to the upper 80s. The main attractions get crowded during the summer.
Early fall is a fantastic time to visit as the weather is still summer-like. September highs reach the 80s and it is still dry.
