Grand Lake sits on the western border of Rocky Mountain National Park in Northern Colorado. Grand Lake is the state’s deepest and largest lake. The town is a tourist attraction in the summer for all things related to playing on the lake. Winters see tourists visiting for winter sports, most notably snowmobiling. Travelers enjoy staying in quaint vacation homes that touch the shores of the lake. The town offers plenty of options for restaurants, bars, and shops.
Grand Lake is a popular summer destination for people who love the outdoors. Activities include recreational boating, fishing, paddle boarding, and ATVs. Summer is packed with signature events such as the 4th of July Fireworks Extravaganza.
The town prides itself on being the “Snowmobile Capital of Colorado” as it has more miles of groomed snowmobile terrain than anywhere else in the state.
Grand Lake was originally established in the late 1880s as a mining outpost. The town leadership has done a terrific job of maintaining the historic character of the past. One of Grand Lake’s most unexpected gems is the Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre, which produces Broadway shows every summer.
RMNP is one of the biggest attractions in the state of Colorado. Tourists visit the park year-round for hiking and viewing wildlife.
Winters are cold with daily lows dropping into the single digits. Grand Lake still gets plenty of sunshine during the winters, but it can get frigid.
Spring weather can be unpredictable as it can bounce back and forth from sunshine to snowstorms. Average daily highs in May are 60 degrees.
Summers are beautiful and it is the most popular season to visit. Daily high temps generally only get to the mid-70s with lots of sun. The high elevation mean that nights can be cool with temps in the 30s.
Early fall is a great time to visit as the crowds die down with the start of the school year. The leaves change in late September and the temps are still in the high 60s. Late fall is cool with not a lot to do.
