Telluride is a stunningly beautiful city in southwestern Colorado along the San Miguel River. Telluride was initially settled in the 1870s as a silver mining town. Telluride sits in a canyon, surrounded by mountains. Telluride was simply a historic mining town until the town was transformed into an international ski destination beginning with the first skiing in 1970. In addition to skiing, Telluride has year-round activities and events. Telluride has internationally-recognized festivals (more on this below).

  • Skiing

    Telluride Ski Resort offers truly world-class skiing. The area is build between the historic town of Telluride and the newer town of Mountain Village. A free gondola connects the two communities. Telluride is known for the difficult skiing, with over 40% of the runs being advanced or expert. However, the area still has plenty of beginner and intermediate runs. Telluride gets a ton of snow, more than most other Colorado ski resorts.

  • All things outdoors

    Whatever your activity of choice, Telluride has it. The area has some of the best hiking in Colorado. The most popular hike is up to Bridal Veil Falls, which is the tallest freestanding waterfall in the state.

  • The town

    Telluride is an officially designated as a National Historic Landmark District. The main street is Colorado Avenue, which is lined with boutiques, restaurants, bars, and hotels.

  • Festivals and Events

    Telluride’s popularity is largely due to the international festivals that draw people in throughout the year. Some of the most notable are the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Telluride Film Festival, and the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival.

  • Winters are prime time for tourism with a ton of snow, and near-perfect skiing conditions.

  • Spring is generally considered the off-season. May has daily high temps around 60 degrees.

  • Summers are also high time for visiting. Daily highs are in the mid-70s with plenty of sunshine. Perfect weather for the various outdoors activities.

  • Falls are beautiful, especially in late September and early October. rnPro Tip - One of the new festivals is the Telluride Horror Show (horror film festival) in mid-October.
