During the dry season (December to April) The Pacific Coast of Ecuador is one of the country’s most popular destinations. Towns like Montanita and Salinas offer visitors plenty of surf, sand as well as an abundance of local culture. Unlike the more populated Caribbean coastal areas, Ecuador’s Pacific Coast is far more laid back and mellow, some might even describe it as off the beaten path. There are however, no shortage of activities as far as the beaches are concerned.

  • Puerto Lopez

Heralded as the whale watching capital of South America, Puerto Lopez is the destination for spotting the great humpbacked whales. They even come here to take care of their calves. It is not uncommon to spot multiple whales jumping out of the waters directly around you.

  • Mompiche

Definitely a less crowded Pacific Coastal beach, Mompiche is exactly what some tourist-weary travelers are looking for. Quiet and long stretches of sandy paradise, beckon those who want to get away from it all. It’s also very popular among area surfers.

  • Guayaquil

The largest city in the area, Guayaquil boasts some terrific local restaurants, bars and night life for those visiting the region. Its claim to fame though is the Malecon which is a beautiful riverside walkway.
