Oahu is the third largest Hawaiian island by land size, but #1 largest by population. Honolulu is the most remote city of its size in the world. It is a popular hub for travelers who are visiting any of the Hawaiian islands as well many other Pacific destinations. Oahu is known for the beaches, from Waikiki in downtown Honolulu to the North Shore.

  • Beaches

Waikiki is the most visited beach in Hawaii. The beach is lined with high-rise hotels. Other options include the photogenic Kailua Beach Park and Sunset Beach.

  • Honolulu

Honolulu is Hawaii's largest city and the state capital. The city offers the activity and culture of a major city combined with the vibe of a beach town.

  • Pearl Harbor

The attack on Pearl Harbor is one of the most infamous events in US history. Visiting the Pearl Harbor Historic Sites is a full-day activity that gives amazing perspective on US history.

  • North Shore

Oahu's North Shore is the global capital for major surfing competitions. Just a heads up - this isn't the surf destination for beginners.

THE SEASONS
  • Winter is prime surf season, and a good time to see the competitions at North Shore. In general, the island gets very crowded with tourists on holiday vacations.

  • Spring (after spring break) is a good time to visit. April and May are off-months for tourism and you'll find better hotel deals.

  • Summer is a busy season, with family travel.

  • Fall is another great time to plan a Hawaiian trip. September and October are low months for tourism, but the weather remains beautiful.
