Ocho Rios, a bustling town located on the northern coast of Jamaica, is a popular tourist destination known for its stunning natural beauty and a plethora of exciting activities. Whether you're climbing waterfalls, zip-lining through the forest, or simply enjoying the laid-back island lifestyle, Ocho Rios promises an unforgettable and soul-stirring experience that will leave you with cherished memories of the beautiful Jamaican coastline.

  • Dunns Falls

Dunn’s Falls is a waterfall hike which feels like a tourist trap as they host nearly 1-million guests per year. Most of those people arrive with the cruise schedule which means around 10AM even though the park is already open by 8:30AM; arrive earlier and have the falls virtually to yourself. The hike up the falls can be made alone though local guides may pressure you into taking their helpful hand – while you may not need it, this could be a good opportunity to connect with a Jamaican and provide to the local economy.

  • Scenic Bars

The city is situated on a port and, therefore, most of it is at or nearly at sea level. However, the city is surrounded by relatively steep hills/mountains which savvy business owners have taken advantage of to provide serene and expansive views over the cliffs and ocean. Most tourists don’t know this so when you do find a bar which suits your interest, you’ll likely be the only people there.

  • Go Away

Similar to the aforementioned bars, there are a lot of hidden areas that 99.9% of cruise-goers will never know about. Grab a taxi or, better yet, hire a driver for the day (affordable, flexible, and gives a local a good day’s work) and have them take you to local secret spots. There’s a local’s beach to the east of the city with cheap drinks, food options, and a chill vibe. Then head to the highlands surrounding the city for some fresh fruit, pulled straight off of the trees. Do yourself a favor and get 20-60 minutes out of the city to enjoy many hidden treats.
