A port on the Columbia River, Hood River is a fairly small city with a lot of heart. Their prime location on the water and within 30 miles of Mt. Hood makes them ideal for those tourists who want to experience a little of everything the Oregon outdoors has to offer. While their smaller size makes the city life a bit more manageable for those just stopping in for a visit. One of its more popular nicknames—the wind surfing capital of the world—basically says it all. People come to Hood River for the all of the outdoor action and then settle in to experience the amazing food, wineries, breweries and distilleries that the city features.

    Because of the city’s mild climate and precipitation rates, they have fairly long growing seasons, which means an abundance of fruits and vegetables. THE SEASONS
  • The winter is a slow time for tourism, but the town is charming enough that it draws holiday visitors. It is the wet season, but still fairly mild.

  • Spring is very mild. Daily highs are typically in the 60s and Hood River is dry compared to coastal Oregon. April has a few signature annual events and can be a good time to stay in Hood River.

  • Summer is all about playing outdoors. Hood River is a haven for outdoors enthusiasts. The weather is perfect for recreation with highs in the low-80s and dry skies.

  • Fall visitors come for the mild weather, changing of the colors, and October festivals.
