The city’s slogan: It’s Island Time, and in this resort city located on Galveston and Pelican Islands, it is definitely all about the beaches. There is more than 32 miles of shoreline to be exact, making this a water and sand lovers paradise. Because it’s a coastal region, Galveston gets tons of tourists every year, which means they offer plenty of activities and attractions. From the Pleasure Pier, to the museums, to its famed Mardi Gras festival, the area certainly knows how to entertain. In Galveston though, the beaches are king. Some of the more popular spots are located on the East End to include East, Porretto, and Stewart Beaches, while on the West side, you can find smaller, more intimate beach locales.
Given its location, the seafood offerings here are sure to be fresh daily and always scrumptious. Tex Mex is also a big staple as far as the Galveston food scene goes. They love their coffee here. Some of the best, home roasted Texas brewed java can be found in the city.
There is no shortage of live performances in and around the city. Listening to live music on a warm coastal night underneath the stars can’t be beat. Check out Music Night on the Strand, or Bands on the Sand.
For water lovers this is the Texas city to visit. Fishing, swimming, paddle boarding and boating are all hugely popular. East Beach features a boardwalk as well as stages on which bands and singers regularly perform.
Galveston is considered a year-round destination, but winters are too cool to enjoy the water. Highs are in the low-60s.
Spring tends to have some fun festivals. By April, highs are in the mid-70s.
Summer is busy season. Summer through fall is also hurricane season. Consider skipping summer to avoid the crowds.
September and October can be good months to visit (again, check the hurricane news). The crowds thin out but the highs are still in the 80s.
