The city was named after a German prince and its roots are still very evident today, as many of the street signs bear German names. You can visit a beer garden, partake in the popular Wurstfest, and check out Gruene Hall—the oldest dance hall in Texas. Because this is Texas Hill Country, breweries and wineries abound in New Braunfels. Both craft beer and local wines are huge regional industries. New Braunfels is also about outdoor experiences. Comal River and the Guadalupe River offer visitors chances to experience some exhilarating whitewater rafting, world class fishing, swimming, and boating. While several parks provide plenty of scenic opportunities throughout the city.
Truly historic, the downtown boasts the oldest bakery in Texas, the oldest dance hall, and the oldest hardware store. The Main Plaza with a fountain and bronze sculptures is a great place to catch a summer concert. A distinct German vibe permeates the atmosphere as you wander through the quaint and charming streets.
Shuttle tour are available to take you from one Texas Hill Country brewery to another. As one would expect, the breweries tend to have something of a European flair—with an undeniable nod to all things German.
As they do have the oldest dance hall, New Braunfels tends to celebrate music, in a big way. Another great venue to catch a show is the Whitewater Amphitheater on the banks of the Guadalupe.

Spring is the rainy season. By May, daily highs are in the mid-80s.
Summers are busy, especially at the world-famous water park, Schlitterbahn. August sees daily highs in the mid-90s.
Falls see a decent amount of rain. October still has highs around 80 degrees.
