Held annually, artists from around the world come here to showcase their talent. One of the centerpieces of the festival is the display of indigenous Southwestern art.
You can find everything from climbing, to canyoneering to ziplining in St. George. Rock climbing especially is a very popular past time. Visit the great sandstone rocks of Chuckawalla or the black basalt rocks in the Black Rocks climbing area. Road cycling is also a great thing to try when in St. George. They host the North American Pro Championship Iron Man race each year.
St. George, though part of a desert, actually boasts three nearby lakes. You can visit Sand Hollow State Park, Quail Creek State Park, and Gunlock State Park for plenty of fun on the water. Fish, water ski, even bask on the sandy beaches.
Winter is a very slow season. There better places to visit in the winters in Utah to get to the winter sports.
Many experts recommend visiting in April or May to get dry and warm weather. It is a good time to visit the nearby parks. May average highs reach the upper 80s.
Summer can be a busy season with families visiting the parks. Skip the summer to avoid the crowds and the 100 degree plus temps.
Early fall is another fantastic time in St. George. October highs typically hover around 80 degrees.
