5 Wedding Traditions to Keep (Volume #2)

Some traditions stand the test of time.  This blog features 5 wedding traditions to keep. These include the something old, flower girls and others.

Father/Daughter and Mother/Son Dances

Everybody enjoys the sweetness of these moments. Parents (or whoever fills that role in your life) do so much to help you get to this moment. These dances are such a great way to carve out a few minutes to put the focus on your parents. Keep this simple, authentic and special.  Add this to your list of wedding traditions to keep.

Something Old

The saying goes “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue”. The most important piece is the “something old”. Great love is timeless. It connects generations. On your wedding day, consider including an item that reminds you of this. We’ve heard of brides wearing the same earrings that their mothers wore on their wedding day. One groom carried a 19th century pocket watch that belonged to his great grandfather.

Something Sweet

Wedding cakes are insanely expensive and many couples are opting for a modern take. We are completely open doing something different, while still serving some form of dessert. We’ve heard of recent couples choosing between traditional cakes, cupcakes, rice krispie treats, even donuts. Just don’t skip dessert altogether. Guests like their dessert!

Thank you cards

Traditionally, couples send thank you cards, largely centered on thanking the guests for the gifts they received. First, consider making these a little more personal.   You will likely be taking pictures with most guests anyway, a great idea is having these printed so you can include a picture with the guest in your thank you card.

Flower Girls and Ring Bearers

Guests love the cuteness of having children, as flower girls and ring bearers, march down the aisle just before the big moment. We’ve also seen some great modern twists. One couple had their Labrador wear a pouch and carry the rings down the aisle. Another couple had their grandmothers serve as “flower golden girls”.
