6 of the Best Outdoor Summer Movie Venues in America

Summer + Movies = Outdoor Movie Venues. Check this article out for 6 of the Best Outdoor Summer Movie Venues in America.

Flicks on the Bricks – Portland, OR

Portlanders love their beautiful riverside city, especially in the summer when the rain is less prevalent and the locals can enjoy their patented street food while watching movies in a family-friendly, communal environment.  At Flicks on the Bricks, Pioneer Courtyard Square is turned into the perfectly centralized location for watching free movies.  Our pick from this season’s movie options: Forrest Gump on August 18, you can’t go wrong with this classic about a man who “may not be a smart man, but does know what love is.” To learn more about Flicks on the Bricks click Box of Chocolates

Cinespia – Los Angeles, CA

The Hollywood Forever Cemetery is home to many of Tinseltown’s stars from yesteryear.  There’s plenty of life there in the summer, however, when Cinespia hosts a selection of films throughout the summer.  The setting is more beautiful than creepy and its proximity to Hollywood lends itself access to certain stars: just this year Alicia Silverstone showed up for the Cinespia screening of Clueless, for instance.  Our pick from this season’s movie options: Dirty Dancing on July 1, because not only will you have the “time of your life” but the party will continue with some premature 4th of July fireworks following the movie. Intrepid Museum’s Summer Movie Series – New York, NY

Home to a space shuttle, submarine, and the historic aircraft carrier Intrepid, this museum is worth a few hours visit before the movie starts.  When sunset approaches the flight deck on the Intrepid opens to visitors to lounge out and prepare for a unique moviegoing experience.  Since it’s located right in Manhattan you can plan to have a true patriotic experience by visiting the WTC Memorial prior to the museum.  Our pick from this season’s movie options: Good Morning Vietnam on July 11, because it only makes sense to watch a military-focused movie when on an aircraft carrier. They're all named Nguyen, or Tran, or...

Philly @ the Movies – Philadelphia, PA

Philly is a culture all its own with a vibrant Little Italy, colonial architecture, and, of course, as America’s first capital there is an energy to this city like no other.  The Philly @ the Movies series has only a few scheduled nights at the movies in 2017 at varying locations, but one is undeniably the best choice.  Our pick from this season’s movie options: Rocky on July 2, because the biggest claim to fame in this city regarding pop culture is as the home to the bumbling Italian Stallion Rocky Balboa.  What better place to watch this Best Picture of 1976 than on the steps he conquered at the end of that iconic training montage. Millennium Park Summer Film Series – Chicago, IL

Chicago in the summer may bring some humidity with it but there is no city more energetic when cold days depart and the beaches open up to picnickers and the outdoor events resume.  Checkout that big bean on your way to watching a film in Millennium Park, a well placed park overlooking Lake Michigan.  Our pick from this season’s movie options: The Princess Bride on August 29, because every person should be required to watch this movie every five years. Film on the Rocks – Denver, CO

The epic Red Rocks Amphitheater is a quintessential summer activity in Denver for locals and visitors alike.  During the day, you can take the sites in for free while many locals make it their daily workout regimen (running the steps and a variety of other location-specific creative exercises).  The real magic of this venue is experiencing it from dusk to night and the energy that the crowd creates.  Tom Petty tickets were reaching prices as high as $400 just to get in (let alone close seats) so your best bet for affordably experiencing an event at Red Rocks is Film on the Rocks.  Our pick from this season’s movie options: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, because it was the biggest movie in theaters last year and the cosplay for anything Star Wars is top notch.  Arrive early to claim a good seat (all tickets are GA) and enjoy live bands as well as a comedian prior to the showing. On one hand summertime is movie season, on the other hand it’s outdoor season. As Joey Tribbiani would say “Put your hands together.”
