Companies that Give Back (Volume #2)

Social enterprises are popping up everywhere, and that's a great thing! Spur Experiences is one of them, and here are our favorite Companies that Give Back (Volume #2).

Project 7

Project 7 is the company to satisfy that sweet tooth of yours with unique gum flavors and gummies that have no artificial colors, no preservatives, and no artificial flavors; essentially as heathy as it gets when snacking on sweets! How they give back: Project 7 focuses on the top seven areas of need on Earth.  Some examples are “Save the Earth” which leads to planting trees; “Feed the Hungry” which helps feed those in need; and “Teach Them Well” which goes to proper schooling of children in developing countries.  Every purchase you make contributes to one of the seven key areas.  Check out the Birthday Cake flavored gum, or the Samoa-inspired Girl Scout Caramel Cookie gum - mmmmm.

Better World Books

This is for the avid reader in the crew.  Better World Books sells used books online at fantastic prices.  Jump on and browse for deals from textbooks to novels and don’t forget to scope out the “bargain bin” which allows for even deeper discounts as you fill your cart with books that can scale down to just $3/each. How they give back: Better World Books does its good deeds through giving books to students and libraries in developing countries.  Every book you purchase leads to the donation of another book to their partners overseas.  You can also sell your unwanted text books to earn some post college cash back while simultaneously giving Better World Books more inventory to do good with.

Sword and Plough

Unique fashion, repurposing used materials, and giving veterans work are what culminated in creating Sword and Plough.  Repurposed military bags and materials are used to create fashionable accessories.  All their partners, from leather manufacturer to their fulfillment partner and all partners in between are veteran-owned businesses. How they give back: 10% of after-tax profits go directly to organizations that support veterans.

Warby Parker

Fashionable eyewear with a unique buying experience help Warby Parker to achieve the impact that they have made.  They will even let you order select frames for free so that you can try them on and see how they match your personality, which allows for risk free shopping. How they give back: For every pair of glasses you purchase they will send a pair to non-profits around the world.  Additionally, they help support eye exam training in developing countries.

Soapbox

Soapbox makes soaps, body wash, and hair care products.  The prices are very reasonable and they are extremely forthright about the ingredients so you know exactly what you’re getting.  Reviewers rave about the quality of the products in feel and aroma. How they give back: Every product you purchase gives a bar of soap to a someone in need.  Smell good and help save lives at the same time.
Thankfully companies that give back are thriving and continue to grow with the support of socially aware consumers like yourself.
