Companies that Give Back

Blog features companies that give back and features the Spur Experiences Gives program. Also includes Patagonia, Panda and Harry's.

How Spur Experiences Gives Back in a Big Way

Spur is an experience-based wedding registry.  When engaged couples create a registry, they select a charity that is meaningful to them.  Spur contributes 5% of the sales from the couple’s registry to the charity they’ve selected.

What Charities are Eligible?

Spur Experiences honors any charity that is meaningful to our couples as long as the charity:
  1. Creates their free charity page on Spur here (so couples can select and we can pay the charity), and
  2. Is a registered 501(C)3 organization.
Spur Experiences doesn’t evaluate or endorse any of the charities.  We simply honor what our couples select.  Spur's charity partners include Big Brothers Big Sisters, Make-A-Wish, Special Olympics, Anchor Center for Blind Children and Dumb Friends League.

Why Only 5%?

The majority of Spur Experiences’s sales are paid directly to the experience provider.  5% of sales actually represents about a third of Spur Experiences’s profit.  It is a huge number and it is nearly unheard of in the business world.  Spur Experiences hopes it will inspire other companies to find creative and meaningful ways to give.

Other Companies That Give Back

Spur Experiences applauds other companies that give back.  Here are some of our favorites.

Patagonia

Patagonia is a company that focuses on premium outdoor clothing.  Patagonia has long been recognized as a leader in the category of “companies that give back”.  Since 1985, Patagonia has pledged 1% of sales to the preservation and restoration of the natural environment. Panda

Panda sells sunglasses handcrafted from sustainably sourced bamboo.  Not only do they create an environmentally-friendly product, they are also one of the top fashion companies that give back.  For each pair of sunglasses purchased, Panda gives a pair of prescription sunglasses and provides a medical eye exam to someone in need. Harry's

Harry's is a shaving product subscription service.  With their "Harry's 1 + 1 Program", Harry's gives 1% of total sales and 1% of employee time to charity.  Harry's current charity partner is City Year.  With City Year, corps members learn valuable professional and life skills, all the while fighting high national dropout rates and cultivating a passion for volunteering. Please share with us some of your favorite companies who give back. We'd love to spotlight them in future articles.
