Inevitably we would need to talk about the “one-for-one model” originators at TOMS.  Blake Mycoskie is an avid traveler and while in Argentina he had two realizations: an uncomfortably high percentage of people (especially children) can’t afford shoes in the country; and, the common shoe style there could be a desired fashion in the U.S.  He coordinated with some Argentine manufacturers and made a few trips back to Argentina to plan the business and establish partners.  After a fortuitous national feature, TOMS exploded overnight into a household name.  Their one-for-one model gives a pair of shoes to a child in need for each pair purchased.  They’ve expanded into other shoe styles as well as eyewear maintaining the one-for-one model and giving in more ways.
