Sian Ka'an Muyil
Please note: As of June 2024, the Muyil Ruins are closed indefinitely. This listing will be updated when the Ruins are re-opened and the tour is being offered again. Picturesque temples stand undisturbed among the trees, where you'll take an eye-opening walk among the temples and through the changing ecosystems, passing seasonal pools, exuberant vegetation, and eventually a lookout tower with a wonderful view of the biosphere. A delicious picnic accompanied with seasonal fruits and local snacks awaits you at the end of the walk. You then embark on a boat ride across the lagoons, through flooded savannah and intricate mangrove canals that mesmerize with their tones of green reflected in the still blue water. A secret route through winding channels that eventually leads out to the open ocean, this was an active trade route in ancient times, dotted with small temples and abundant birdlife. The clearest of water entices you on an incredible 'lazy river' adventure, where you float in a truly unique setting, surrounded by the sounds of nature, orchids & bromeliads, hearing only the birdsong and the wind lightly rustling through the reeds.
The ancient Maya site of Muyil is located in the northern section of the Sian Ka'an biosphere reserve. This millennia-old trading post, nestled on the edge of the freshwater lagoon systems and the tropical forest, is the perfect place to enjoy an introduction to Mayan history and ecology.
It is recommended that clients bring comfortable clothes and shoes (sandals ok), a bathing suit, sunglasses, a towel, a camera, binoculars, sun protection (biodegradable), and some cash.
