Tijuca Forest Challenge Circuit
On this Tijuca Forest Challenge, you'll hike through a circuit of trails designed by a team of experts in this National Park. The main idea is to give you a great variety of sensory experiences such as viewing mountains and peaks, but also caves, waterfalls, and ruins of an old coffee farm. You'll be hiking on less populated trails in a more hidden and unique part of the park; most of the time, you won't see anyone else.
On this off-beaten-track circuit of trails, you'll discover the nature and lush of the Atlantic tropical rainforest. You'll hike in the deep jungle and cross streams over suspension bridges until you reach the Taquara Hills at 2,670 feet high. This is over 300 feet higher than the Christ Redeemer Statue, with magnificent views of the Tijuca Forest Valley and the Western part of Rio (on clear days). Get ready to walk, hike, and have an adventure!
After the hike, refresh yourself by showering in a waterfall. The scenery of this tour is amazing and more than nature, it has a lot of adventurous moments inside the rainforest visiting sites that are not featured in most tours. On your way up, you'll also learn the history of Rio and Tijuca Forest and all about the coffee farms that used to exist there, its golden years, and the re-forestation held in the XIX century.
Please note: This hike is rated as HARD and is only meant for those with good physical fitness. The hike is 4 to 5 hours in length, covers 6.5 miles, and gains 2,782 feet in elevation.
