After traveling about 20 miles, you'll take the Mythical Route 40 bordering, for a large part of your route, the eastern margin of Lake Argentino and the shores of the Santa Cruz River. Then, meet the La Leona River. There you will stop to learn a little more about the history of the La Leona parador and hotel where, whoever wishes, can enjoy a hot infusion with homemade cakes.
Depart for El Chaltén and enjoy lunch in La Tapera. After a 45-minute walk, reach the Mirador de los Cóndores for stunning views of the mountains, Las Vueltas river valley, and the town. The route takes you through the forest, and to complete the panoramic experience, you'll also visit the Mirador de Las Águulas, located along a fork before reaching the Mirador de los Cóndores.
Then, reach an observation point where Lake Viedma, Túnel Bay, and Pirámide Hill display their attractions. Upon returning, you'll have time to tour the beautiful mountain town and begin your return to El Calafate.
